Once upon a time there was a beautiful girl who so loved the sound of wind whistling in the air that she would spend her days sitting in the hills listening.
One day, as she sat amidst her windy chorus, she heard the most beautiful silence floating down. When she turned to see what had made the winds move, she saw a boy so handsome as to make her gasp.
She beckoned to him, asking who are you? And would you sit with me? I should like to know you.
So he sat down, silently (for everything he did carried a great silence). And together they listened to the winds and felt the breezes.
When at last the day was growing dark, she asked again, who are you? What is your name?
And he put his lips against hers, and it was as though she felt all at once what made the winds blow, and what made shade cool, and what made her enjoy those things.
So soon as their lips had met and she felt these many things, she had closed her eyes, and slowly she could hear the chirping of crickets and bird songs, and she knew when she opened her eyes he would be gone.
So it was that she began her search, and she went into the world with his name on her lips.
When she had walked for a day, she came upon a child playing outside of an old house and called
"Young one, have you seen a boy so handsome he could make the wind blow?"
He said
"I don’t know if I’ve met one that handsome, what is his name?"
And she put her lips to his.
The boy smiled, and said, "I’ve not, let me ask my mother!"
and he rant into the old house and said
"Mother, have you met a boy named…"
As her ears were listening for the sound of his name, his lips met hers, and she was happy, for she knew now he was her son.
But she did not know a boy like that, and let the girl know.
So she carried on her way, and when she had walked for a second day she came upon a little garden wherein two brother were quarreling.
She called to them asking
“Gentlemen, have you seen a boy so handsome he could make the shade cool?”
And one said,
"I’ve met some travelers along this path, what was his name?”
And she told him, her lips meeting his.
He said
"No, I’ve never met one with that name!”
And as she went on her way, the other brother saw what joy she brought him, and then they quarreled worse than before, for now there was something to quarrel over.
When she walked for a third day, she found a young boy playing at games and making jest at those who passed him.
She saw his face, and thought, surely this must be his brother, for he is so handsome, just louder and younger.
And she went to him and asked,
"Child, have you a handsome brother?"
And he smiled and looked on, still playing with his toys,
She said
"Child, you look so like him, what’s your name?"
At this he stood, went to her and kissed her.
As they kissed she blinked, and upon opening them, he was before her, as he was when they had met.
But she was cross, asking why he had gone from her. At last he spoke and said
“My name means Love, ours are the first lips to kiss.
You have spread the Kiss as you sought me, and many shall now kiss and feel what makes with wind blow, and the shade cool, and what makes us take joy in these.
They shall feel love, and share love.
And I am now free to love you and remain here with you.”
So the girl kissed the boy, and together they felt joy as though it were their first kiss.
The End.
