Ideograms of Annihilation
This week I put out my translation and commentary on hexagram 36, Killing the Light. These are some of the significant characters in the text.
夷
Killing, the second character in the name of the hexagram, is a great man with a bow. Similar to 疾 “sickness”.
It also meant barbarians, very similar to the Greek’s “Scythian” which directly means “archer” or “shooter”. We can think of this character as a good catchall for horseback archers, enemies of the people.
飛
Flight is a flying bird. Notably, this character also means “Femto” (15), Berserk fans know the significance of Femto being represented as a flying bird!
